I was thrilled about the concept of this type of training because the purpose was to enable me to be the trainer. That's exactly how I thought it should be. My dog, my training, I just needed to learn how to do it.

I knew though I was going to give Chloe an unusual challenge that she likely had never had with a client before. I'm legally blind. That being the case, what a normal dog trainer could pick up on or do I was often incapable of. For example, I couldn't pick up on the signs of a dog getting agitated such as their ears raising or be able to brace in advances when other dogs were approaching us. It created a lot of difficulties and challenges with me being the trainer, but I was determined I could do it. Chloe was more than willing to accommodate my circumstances, equipment me with the tools I needed for success, and support me through the entire process. There were many occasions I would start to feel bad that my vision created so many extra challenges, but Chloe never once got impatient or frustrated with them. She would respond to every single one of my challenges by first dignifying me and then coming up with a way to work around them. Anyone with a disability or disadvantage like myself gets that this type of treatment is truly priceless. I actually asked Chloe several times to charge me more due to my circumstances, but she refused to. Chloe is just one of those people that has more heart than money.

Chloe was from beginning to end an extremely good communicator. I was often surprised with how quickly and thoroughly she would respond to my messages. To say I was 100% satisfied with my experience with Chloe would be an understatement.

By the time Riley and I finished the program, Riley had nailed everything we learned. She had already moved onto other things outside of the program because of the fact that Chloe provided me the skill of how to properly communicate with my pup. Once I learned how to communicate correctly with Riley, it allowed us to do so much more together.

Today I'm constantly getting compliments from people on how good and obedient my dog is. I don't ever have to worry about Riley's behavior anymore because we are always on the same page of what is expected of her. More than all of these things though my ultimate goal was to have a dog that would right by my side share my biggest passion in life, that of long distance running. Riley not only flawlessly runs by my side, but we now have a relationship and bond that has far exceeded what I thought was even possible between a girl and her dog.

  Although I am reliant on Yelp for just about every decision I make, I don't know that I've ever left a review; my exceptional experience with Rooted Dog Training has... read more inspired me to come out of my shell and change my practice.
Where do I begin? I'll start with Stella, our 4.5 year old beagle mix , whom we've had for about 1.5  years.  Her first 3 years of dog life were spent in abhorrent conditions, she was untrusting of humans and essentially feral.
For the first year we worked with a fancy, five star rated, (outlandishly expensive) pet behaviorist/veterinarian who gave us direction and medication with little to no improvement. Stella lived in her bed in the corner of the living room, high on Xanax, getting up when no one was looking to go relieve herself on her potty pads. Then we moved from Orange County to Claremont...
Over the course of the move, poor Stella didn't eat for days and we realized that without her meds- she was actually the same. And in our new house she seemed somehow more connected to us. Was dog-Stockholm syndrome setting in?  Did she sense that our community was more progressive and tolerant? Whatever it was, we took the opportunity to start anew- enter Rooted and Chloe...
My husband and I started with a phone consultation with Chloe and we explained our situation- we were not the typical client for Chloe and she was honest that she didn't have experience with dogs like Stella and she wasn't sure if she could help. However she was willing to come meet us and see. From that initial meeting she agreed to help us; And over the next two months we spent five sessions working with Stella to expose her to her fears (and force her out of her comfort zone. Chloe was smart,  grounded, and earnest- and interpersonally she is great company, even in stressful, sometimes awkward, hot afternoons. We took her suggestions and did ALL of the homework.
Fast forward to yesterday, with the five sessions under our belt, Stella (who we often sadly joked had a fitness level akin to veal and would literally poop herself at the site of a leash) went for a 2 mile walk with my husband and I. I'm getting weepy just typing it.
All this to say, thank you Chloe. For your integrity, animal insight, willingness to work outside of the box, and change our little pups trajectory that we feared was written in stone.
10 stars. No joke.

  We had the best time working with Chloe at Rooted Dog Training. Chloe is extremely knowledgeable about all things training related, but the best part was that Chloe really respected... read more our comfort level, and consistently met us where we were. She never expected us to follow a rigid timeline, but instead worked with us to develop confidence and to learn why she prefers certain training methods. She was very patient with all of our questions and concerns, and we always felt like we could be honest with her. In return, she was very candid with us, and we appreciated the open communication. Even though we worked at our own pace, we were extremely happy with Enzo's progress, and it's been so awesome to think about where he started, and to see him now. From the very first lesson, where Enzo learned the "place" command, to our final lesson where Enzo worked on his "off leash," we've been so happy and proud of him. A bonus was that Enzo loves Chloe, and was always excited to work with her. We now have the tools and knowledge to keep working and growing with our pup. We know that we will keep in touch with Chloe because she cares about her clients and is truly interested in offering support and following her clients' progress. Would definitely recommend.

  Chloe is amazing, through and through . She is an expert in her field and completely trained our Golden doodle in her 8 week training course. I was nervous initially... read more because I feared that a trainer would be judgmental, harsh etc but she was the complete opposite. She is stern when it comes to the training, you can tell she knows what she is doing and she will explain why she does what she does but is also understanding. For example I have a young daughter that I was homeschooling at the time and when I couldn't practice as much as she suggested I was scared to tell her but wanted to be honest on why our progress wasn't where is should be. She was understanding, we laughed at some things and moved on. She was so personable, you can just tell she is passionate at what she does and I couldn't recommend her more. She boards our Penny noodle when we go out of town and it is worth every dollar ! Thanks Chloe !

  I can't express how grateful I am to have found Chloe. Hands down the best decision we've made for our dog! We just finished our training last week and it's... read more like we have a completely different dog. Our walks are no longer stressful (Whiskey no longer pulls and he heels), there is structure in our day which helped immensely with behavior problems we were having.

Chloe gave me the tools and showed me how to properly communicate with Whiskey - he's happy, I'm happy.. its amazing!

We had our first pack walk over the weekend and it was so much fun!
